Julius Walker Jr. is the Democratic candidate for Washington County Board of Commissioners, District 2, in the 2026 election, running unopposed.

Background and education

Walker holds a Master of Arts degree from North Carolina Central University. He is a longtime resident of Roper, Washington County, NC.

Career

Walker began his career in education in 1967 as a teacher for Washington County Schools. Over more than four decades he held progressively senior roles, including teacher-coach, elementary school principal, middle school principal, high school principal, assistant superintendent, and Superintendent of Washington County Schools, from which he retired in 2009. After retirement he continued to serve the region as interim superintendent for Bertie County Schools (twice), Hertford County Schools (once), and Washington County Schools (once).

Governor Roy Cooper honored Walker with the North Carolina Outstanding Educator award in 2020. Since February 2024 he has served on the Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees as the representative for Washington County.

Family

Walker is married to Katie Walker. They have two children, Shawn Walker Sr. and Kendra Walker Powell, and three grandchildren.
