Current office and 2026 campaign

Rodney Archer is a Democratic candidate for Anderson County Commission, District 3, on the August 6, 2026 county general election ballot — one of three candidates competing for two available District 3 seats, alongside Republican incumbent Shelly Vandagriff and Republican challenger Shannon Gray 1. His campaign states: "At a time when things are pushed from the top down, I am a strong believer in local control" 2.

Archer is a lifelong Anderson County resident 2.

Career

Archer previously served as an Anderson County Commissioner from 2002 to 2006 and as Anderson County Trustee from 2006 to 2017. During his time as trustee he was recognized as the East Tennessee division's Outstanding Trustee in 2010 and was elected president of the Tennessee County Trustee's Association in November 2014 after previously serving as its secretary 3. In April 2017 he left the trustee's office to become Executive Director of the County Officials Association of Tennessee (COAT), a position he continues to hold 3. His campaign biography also describes him as a financial advisor 2.
