Joe Purvis is the incumbent Giles County Sheriff and a Republican candidate (nominated by caucus) for a full term on the August 6, 2026 county general ballot 12. He announced his candidacy on August 15, 2025, saying his decision stems from a commitment to serving Giles County residents and building on the progress of his current term; he says his campaign highlights "continued transparency and community engagement" 1.
Office history
Purvis was appointed Giles County Sheriff by the Giles County Commission in November 2024 to complete the unexpired term of former Sheriff Kyle Helton, who left to join the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security 1. During his tenure he has "focused on strengthening community relationships, supporting deputies with updated resources, and maintaining a visible presence at local events," including "Coffee with a Cop" programs 1. The Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement, county jail oversight, court security, and civil and criminal process service 1.
