Current office and 2026 campaign

David Corwin, a Republican, defeated incumbent Ronald W. French in the May 5, 2026 primary for Blount County Commission District 9, Seat A, and faces Democrat Alice Wardrep in the August 6, 2026 general election 12. His stated top priorities are keeping Blount County "one of the most fiscally conservative counties in the state" by continuing to pay down county debt, and protecting the county from overdevelopment through planned growth 1.

Background and education

Corwin grew up in Loudon County before moving to Blount County in 2013 1. He began attending Blount County Commission meetings in 2022 "as a citizen who wanted to better understand how local government affects daily life," which he says led him to run for the seat 1.

Career

Corwin has worked as a state-certified building inspector in a neighboring county for more than seven years 1.
