Esther Helton-Haynes is a Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing District 30 in Hamilton County. She assumed office on November 6, 2018, succeeding Marc Gravitt [1]. Her current term is scheduled to end on November 3, 2026 [1]. Helton-Haynes was born on November 6, 1961, in East Ridge, Tennessee [6]. Prior to her political career, she worked as a nurse for 35 years and earned a degree in Practical Nursing from Chattanooga State Community College in 1981 [6]. She is married with three children and identifies as a Baptist active at Grace Works Church [6].

District 30 includes East Ridge, parts of East Brainerd, Apison, and Collegedale [6]. Helton-Haynes has served on the East Ridge City Council since 2016 [13]. Her committee assignments have included the Health Committee, where she serves as Vice-Chair, and the Local Government Committee [1]. She is also a member of the Facilities, Licensure, and Regulation Subcommittee and the Property and Planning Subcommittee [6].

In the 2024 general election, Helton-Haynes defeated Democratic candidate Heather McClendon with 59.7% of the vote (19,473 votes) to McClendon’s 40.3% (13,136 votes) [1]. She is running for re-election in the Republican primary on August 6, 2026 [1]. In December 2025, she announced her campaign with a focus on banning natural and synthetic forms of kratom [9]. Her legislative priorities include supporting public education and protecting families [13].

Helton-Haynes has received several endorsements and awards. The Tennessee Hospital Association named her a "Defender of Medicine" in 2023 [8]. In 2026, the Associated General Contractors of East Tennessee named her Legislator of the Year for her advocacy on policies supporting the construction industry and responsible development [10]. She was also endorsed by the NFIB Tennessee PAC in August 2024 [8].

Helton-Haynes is a member of several civic organizations, including the East Ridge High School Alumni Association, the East Ridge Optimist Club, the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club, and the Hamilton County Republican Women [6]. She is also a member of Elks Lodge 91 in East Brainerd [6].
