She was elected to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in 2022 and previously served two terms on the board starting in 2006. Brooks began her career as a public school teacher and has been dedicated to advocating for accountability in institutions that impact children's lives. She played a significant role in the overhaul of the Memphis and Shelby County Juvenile Court by filing a complaint with the Department of Justice, leading to a Memorandum of Agreement that addressed constitutional rights violations. Brooks has also been involved in community engagement, forming programs and committees to ensure the implementation of court reforms. She served as a State Representative for the 92nd District for 14 years, where she focused on constitutional protections, criminal practices, and children's safety. Brooks holds a BS in Education from the University of Memphis and attended the Nashville School of Law. She is a graduate of Leadership Memphis.
