Tennessee Code Annotated Section 8- 24-102 provides for minimum salaries\nto be based on population. This same law provides that any annual increase would be based on the percentage increase given to\nstate employees. Currently, only the board of County Commissioners sets salaries. Shall the Shelby County Charter be amended\nto read as follows: Section 3.04. - County mayor - Term, qualifications, compensation. The county mayor shall be elected each four\nyears, commencing with the August 1986 general election, and shall take office on September 1 following his election. He shall be\n18 years of age or older, a resident of Shelby County at least one year prior to filing for this office at the time of his election and\nduring his term of office. Effective September 1, 2018, the county mayor's salary shall be set based upon Tennessee Code\nAnnotated, Section 8-24- 102, as may be from time to time amended by the Tennessee State General Assembly, and shall be\nadjusted annually based on the statutory requirements. The salary of the County Mayor may be changed from time to time by\nOrdinance of the County Commission; provided, however, that no change in salary by the Board of County Commissioners shall\ntake place during the term for which the County Mayor was elected and may not be set lower than the amount called for by\nTennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24- 102. Section 8.11. - Compensation. Effective September 1, 2018, the compensation of\nall county Charter officers shall be set based upon Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24-102, as may be from time to time\namended by the Tennessee State General Assembly, and shall be adjusted annually based on the statutory requirements. The\ncompensation of all county Charter officers may be changed from time to time by Ordinance of the Board of County\nCommissioners, as provided for in Article II, Section 2.06C(3) (e), herein for increases in salary. No change in compensation by the\nBoard of County Commissioners shall take place during the term for which the county Charter officers were elected and may not be\nset lower than the amount called for by Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24- 102.
